Emmanuel is a young American photographer currently based in Austin, Texas. His raw and spontaneous images depict a free and adventurous lifestyle that is becoming a common yearning in our current society. Besides this, his well composed photographs posses a beautiful balance and sense of harmony, which make them highly attractive and avid to explore.
Following we want to present an interview we had with Emmanuel:
am - First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please tell us where are you from and what do you do at the moment?
ER - I am from New York City and I am currently living in Austin, Texas. I work as a barback at a local bar and am currently trying to reignite my passion for photography.
am - What does photography mean to you?
ER - Photography is a sort of therapy that’s both exciting and challenging for me. Every time I snap a photograph that I like, I get this weird sensation and satisfaction that keeps me constantly shooting more.
am - What inspires your work?
ER - I have always been fascinated by the lifestyles people live. I am curious as to how others carry themselves, which helps me observe the world and human interactions. I enjoy seeing others having fun and living life their own way which is completely unique. I decide to pick up the camera in those moments, those moments in-between something and nothing.
am - Who are your favorite photographers / artists?
ER - Daniel Arnold, Michael Donovan, Mark Steinmetz, William Eggelston, amongst many others.
am - How would you describe your photographs in 3 words?
ER - Candid, Inviting, Surreal.
am - What are 5 things you could absolutely not live without?
ER - Bourbon, cigarettes, my cameras, new experiences, and most importantly my love Amanda.
am - If you could travel and stay in a place for one year, where would you choose to go?
ER - I have been quite interested in Argentina lately, I would want to spend a year there and explore the underground scenes of Argentina, mainly Buenos Aires.
am - Favorite songs / bands at the moment?
ER - Before the Beginning by John Frusciante.
am - What’s your favorite movie?
ER - Trainspotting.
am - Who’s your favorite author?
ER - Unfortunately I think I only finished about 3 books in my life, so I don’t quite have a favorite author.
am - Gin, vodka or tequila?
ER - Bourbon.
am - Your main unanswered question in life?
ER - Why do people think its cool to wear glasses upside-down and backwards on the back of their head?
am - Do you have any project in mind that could be a personal or professional challenge?
ER - Well for the past year I have been working on reinventing my work and myself. It’s time to take a different approach to my photos and lately I’ve been curious about street photography. Watching and reading many interviews to create something unique with my current aesthetic and that of a street photographer.
am - Thank you very much for your time and your contribution to analog magazine.
