Lennart is a young German photographer who creates minimal and atmospheric abstractions of the world that surrounds him. In this way, his works are quiet, balanced, meditative and very expressive. Besides photography Lennart enjoys cycling, hiking and climbing which in turn bring him great opportunities to continue his photo adventures.


Next we want to present a short interview that we had with Lennart:


am - First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

LN -My Name is Lennart Normann, based in Berlin. I graduated in photography  two years ago. Currently I’m preparing some prints for an exhibition in early 2017. I’m also working on a smaller instant film series and on an ongoing longterm project which will appear in my 2nd book next year.


am - How did you start in photography?

LN - It began with an old used 3 MP mobile phone that a friend gave to me and I was addicted immediately. Shooting Film started about one year later as an experiment. During my studies I learned more about this medium and the craft and switched more and more to it.


am - What inspires your work?

LN - atmosphere, (negative)- spaces,  architecture… a mix of memories and dream fragments.


am - Who are your favorite photographers / artists?

LN - Leiter, Eggleston, Moriyama… Escher, Magritte…


am - How would you describe your photographs in 3 words?

LN - minimalist, melancholic, surreal.


am - When you are not taking pictures what do you do?

LN - I love cycling , hiking, climbing… and I have a small side job in health care.


am - if you could travel and stay in a place for one year, where would you choose to go?

LN - Iceland


am - Favourite songs /bands at the moment?

LN - nope, sorry.


am - What’s your favourite movie?

LN - I like the work of Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers, Lynch, and I love black humor.


am - What are you reading at the moment?

LN - Murakami.
