am - First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

ME - Hello. Thank you very much for the opportunity to introduce myself.

My name is Mariia Ermolenko. I'm from St. Petersburg, Russia and live there.

I studied painting restoration, but it turned out to be not what I would like to do and I left it. Now I study at the Academy of Photography "Fotografika" and shoot personal projects.

am - How did you start in photography?

ME - My first film camera was given to me when I was 13 years old. But then it was just pampering. Later, when I realized that restoration was not for me, I began to reflect a lot and took care of myself. I studied film, painting and other arts. Meanwhile, I realized that I take a lot of pictures and I like it. When I accepted the idea that I wanted to seriously engage in photography, I went to study at the academy.

am - What is “Flow” about?

ME -  “Flow” is an essay about time and memory. I think a lot about its movement and its value in every life. I shot this series in different places that I've visited.

Life is fragile, and our passage through it is fleeting, as a journey. My works are about the impression, the moment, about life and death.

am - Who are your favourite photographers / artists?

ME - It is very difficult to name just one or two. The photographers are: Sarah Moon, Jungjn Lee, and Japanese photographers. The painters that have influenced me and always had a great value for me are: Andrew White, Cy Twombly and Mark Rothko.

am - What’s your favourite movie?

ME - In general the creativity of Andrei Tarkovsky.

am - What is your favourite photo book?

ME - "Opening" by Jungjin Lee.
