First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

My name is Nathalie. I live in Sweden on the countryside. My work contains self-portraits, nature and experiments with analog photography. I am educated in Fine Art Photography at Gamleby School of Photography and I have a bachelor in cultural studies.

At the moment I'm taking a course on starting up my own business. I dream of working more with photography and hope that I can make small cultural events in the future. I’m also looking for places to exhibit my work next year, thinking about making my first photo book and working on a new photo-project. To work more with art is my main focus!

How did you start in photography?

I started to explore photography in high school. But it got more serious when I started studying Fine Art Photography at Gamleby School of Photography.

What attracts you about working with B&W?

The silent and still language that B&W creates. Colors can distract me sometimes. I especially like to use grey tones and I often draw my attention to charcoal drawings and B&W movies so it can be a matter of taste as well I guess.

In general, what inspires your work?

Inspiration for my work comes from nature impressions, thoughts about the unknown/death, philosophical/psychological ideas, being in a quite place, reading poetry, listening to music, looking at historical objects and my own fantasy.

Who are your favourite photographers / artists?

I have many favorite artists. Favorite photographers are Fransesca Woodman, Anne Brigman, Claude Cahun and Vivian Maier. Other artists I like are Maya Deren, Ana Mendieta, Andrei Tarkovsky, Béla Tarr, Käthe Kollwitz, Louise Bourgeois and Jan Svankmajer to name a few.

What is your favourite photo book?

My favorite photo book is ‘People I know’ by Inta Ruka.

Thank you very much for your time and contribution to analog magazine.

Thank you for this oppotunity!
